What is My Final Project
My Final Project is going to be something that I actually need. It is called a fishing tip up. The design behind it is very simple, however it can be one of your greatest tools when it comes to ice fishing. My goal for this project is to make a fully working Ice fishing tip-up using 3 of the machines in the innovation center. As seen in my sketch above, I plan to 3D print the reel, CNC route the base, and vinyl cut the flag. This project will take me a while, so I separated it into 3 parts to better track my progress.
My Reel |
|
This was the first part that I took on, and it was one of the most important. I first drew up my Reel in CAD, getting all of the details that I want onto the reel the way I want it. After drawing it up in CAD, I transferred the STL over to a slicer program to turn it into code that a printer could read. After doing that, I went over to the printer and started my print. after 10 hours of printing, I came back and picked up my finished part. 3D printing is just amazing how it can turn plastic into anything.
The Flag
The Flag was definitely the shortest part of this Tip-up build. I first designed my flags logo using Adobe Illustrator, and then continued to the vinyl machine to cut it out. It had definitely had been a while so I reread the instructions, then got to cutting. After my design was cut, I put it on some transfer tape, and put it onto the flag. Overall simple process that went by very quick.
The Base
This was definitely the hardest part of the project. I did procrastinate this bit of the project to the last 2 weeks of school, but I got it done. This part was the most important part of the project. I first began by designing the size and shape of how I wanted this Tip Up to work. I decided on a big "X", and then brought it into fusion 360. There I made some G-code for the router to read. Although fusion went by without much issue, I made a mistake that almost made me redo the entire base, and that was me not setting my material to .75, but instead . 5. When it came time to cut out my material on the router, it didn't cut all the way through. Luckily, Mr Willauer came up with the Idea to just cut through the remaining material by moving the drill bit down. It worked, and that was my final part of my project done.
Assembly and Completion
After putting all of my parts together, I was able to say that I have finally completed my final project, and that it works great. It is the off season for Ice fishing, so I can't show you in action, however is does work like my plans say it should work.
Final Thoughts
I loved this project so much, it allowed for me to decide what to make using multiple different tools and ideas that I have learned in Idea and Big Idea. Each tool in the innovation is capable of different things, and combing those things together to make one big project is one of the coolest things that I have ever done. I would recommend to anyone who is thinking about taking this class to do so because it is one of the most fun classes to take.
