What is this project about?
In this project, we are designing calipers to go on a meter stick for the teacher Mr. Shucha. Mr. Shucha wants more of these calipers, but they are really expensive to obtain costing 60$. Our job is to design and produce Calipers that are just as nice at a cheap cost. In the Innovation center we have many machines to work with including 3D printers, CNC machines, and the laser cutter. We can use any of these machines to create the calipers.
Predesign and Idea for Calipers
My plan for these Calipers is to use the hole in the meter stick and put a nut and screw through it to secure it to the meter stick. I didn't put it into my sketch's, but I want to make the length of the calipers 6 in. As for the other caliper, it will move freely up and down the meter stick for measuring. The one thing I cannot work around is the fact I am starting an inch into the calipers.

Now its time to draw it up in 3D Cad
My Original Design was to make a 3D screw that would hold the meter stick tight to the tree calipers, but then I found a screw that is sturdier and will work better. I also had a bottom plater that would allow the meter stick to be supported. However I realized that the screw would do the same job better.
Starting to print!!!
The printing stage has begun, I am now printing the prototype of the tree calipers as seen in the image above. One of the down sides of 3D printing, is it takes along time, and that kinda sucks.
Final project!!!
I learned a lot from this project, I learned you have to account for the smallest details. for example, the rivet made a lot of challenges, because the caliper would fit on the meter stick, but it wouldn't fit. I also learned not to give up, I had alot of challenges, but I didn't give up and kept going.
